[from FB] 新生專題:Classes 2009 and 2017


最近上完了本學期的新生專題後,赫然發現從 2009 年的第一屆 (on 椰林大道) 到 2017 年的這班 (in the classroom),已經過了九年 (或即將邁入第十年)!我不太感歎時間的飛逝,只願曾經相聚的時光還能成為美好的回憶與奮鬥的動力。

漢米爾頓 (Richard Hamilton) 的眼淚

Best wishes to 曉鈴!

Dr. 呂曉鈴為實驗室 2003 梯次入學 (碩士班) 的成員,中間歷經至臺大醫學院擔任研究助理幾年,之後又歸隊攻讀博士,並獲國科會千里馬計畫補助到美國邁阿密大學訪問研究一年。2015 年博士畢業後在研究室繼續擔任博士後研究員,研究成果豐碩。今天曉鈴正式在實驗室完成交接,將赴明道大學擔任助理教授,感謝她對整個研究團隊做出的貢獻,謹此祝福。

有納達爾的除夕夜

       在和家人吃完年夜飯後,受邀至親戚新居參觀。適巧電視實況轉播 2017 年澳洲網球公開賽男子準決賽,由西班牙納達爾 (Rafael Nadal Parera) 與保加利亞迪米特洛夫 (Grigor Dimitrov) 對決納達爾素有「蠻牛」之稱,也曾稱霸網壇好幾年,不過近年來因傷所困加上年紀邁入三十,戰績不佳,上一次打進大滿貫決賽可追至 2014 年的法網。絕大多數的職業網球選手落入這樣的低潮,大多和大滿貫決賽絕緣。面對近況特佳的迪米特洛夫納達爾展現非凡堅毅的求勝鬥志,在苦戰 5 小時後,以 6:3、5:7、7:6 (7:5)、6:7 (4:7)、6:4 獲勝,將和曾為球王的費德勒 (Roger Federer) 在決賽碰頭,爭奪冠軍寶座。

       我何其有幸觀可以看到最後一局轉播,和小孩一起為納達爾加油。在過程中我突然覺得好似在看拳擊賽極速而飛的每一球像極了拳擊手互揮的強拳,勝負關鍵在於誰能挺得住並且給予對方無法招架的球速與落點。我只能說:太好看!但也太殘酷了。對比迪米特洛夫這位年輕五歲且近況頗佳的選手,坦白而言我覺得納達爾贏的機會實在不大然而納達爾克服了傷勢和年紀的劣勢,硬是拿下這一場比許多決賽都更為艱難的準決賽,其鬥志、毅力、智慧使其重返巔峰,著實令人感佩

       看了這一局也把我原本停留在酒酣耳熱的狀態打醒,突然覺得應該要好好振奮迎接大年初一。特此將感想在除夕夜寫下,順道做了一張賀卡,和大家祝福共勉

       新年快樂!(希望納達爾和迪米特洛夫兩位令人激賞的選手都聽得見這個新年的祝賀)

PS. 昨天 (2017/1/29) 的澳網總決戰納達爾在史詩級的比賽中不幸敗給大他五歲的費德勒,令人不捨。但冠軍只能有一位兩位浴火重生的老將的奮戰故事將永遠傳為體壇佳話

非常歡迎副教務長康仕仲教授於 2017 年 1 月 20 日蒞臨昆蟲學系,惠賜寶貴科學教育經驗,以及討論臺大昆蟲學系如何幫助高中生物學教育與實際科學研究作好銜接。我們希望不是讓高中生「先學」,而是真正能透過有效的課程設計,讓科學實作精神與科學熱情「先向下扎根」。

杜鵑花在臺大昆蟲館的第一天和第一個週末


在 2017 年 1 月 6 日的暖冬,杜鵑花悄然地被栽種於臺大昆蟲館的新庭園。原本因經費拮据無法鋪滿地磚之處,竟成為她們的歸宿。經費的拮据讓創意得以綻放,是歷史的偶然,也是必然,因為爾後的杜鵑花節將延伸至蟾蜍山下。最後,感謝今天辛苦的園丁。

十二分之二的榮耀:臺大昆蟲學系老師、博士後研究員與系友科學影像作品榮登劍橋大學動物系 150 週年紀念曆

在 2016 年的秋天,英國劍橋大學動物學系 (Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge) 舉行一連串的活動慶祝創系一百五十週年。其中,科學影像大賽(150th Anniversary Photo Competition) 為重點活動項目之一,該系系友與現任全體師生皆有參賽資格。歷經激烈之角逐,本校昆蟲學系張俊哲教授和呂曉鈴博士的蚜蟲胚胎作品脫穎而出,獲選為 2017 年紀念曆之影像之一 (上圖)。張教授就讀博士班期間為劍橋動物學博物館分子實驗室 (Museum Molecular Laboratory) 的成員。無獨有偶,昆蟲學系碩士班畢業生 (2014 年畢),現為劍橋動物系博二生的孫烜駿同學,其埋葬蟲作品也同獲殊榮 (下圖)。臺大昆蟲學系師生和系友能於全球生醫影像競賽受到肯定,在 12 個獲選名額中佔有 2 席,既是巧合,也是榮譽。

張老師研究室的作品為「Nutritional Invasion (滋養入侵)」,捕捉行孤雌胎生的蚜蟲在內共生菌入侵胚胎囊胚腔的剎那。雖然科學文獻總以「侵略的共生菌 (invading endosymbionts)」稱之,但它們卻是重要的營養供給來源。孫同學以 “All Abroad! (請上船!)” 為題,生動地描述不會飛的寄生蟎靠著會飛的埋葬蟲搭載,在劍橋的田野一站又一站地覓食動物屍體,可謂圖文並茂。值得一提的是,張老師研究室長期飼養的豌豆蚜蟲,甫在 11 月上旬被接受的國際期刊論文中,正式被命名為 “Line of NTU”,好似為 11 月中旬的臺大校慶提前慶生!
